Clear answers to help you understand the experience before you begin.
What is Rooted?
Rooted is a guided self-discovery platform that uses the CAAP© — a clinical methodology built on 40+ years of attachment research — to help you understand your attachment patterns and how they shape your relationships.
Is this a personality test?
No. Rooted uses a structured attachment interview, not a personality assessment or self-report questionnaire. Unlike traditional tests that ask people to rate themselves, the CAAP© uses a carefully designed sequence of questions developed through decades of attachment research to explore how individuals understand and make meaning of their early relational experiences.
The questions, and even their order, are intentional. They are designed to move beyond conscious self-description and help activate the attachment system, allowing deeper relational patterns to emerge through narrative. As you reflect on memories, relationships, and experiences, the interview captures not only what you say, but how you organize, recall, and communicate your story. The CAAP© then analyzes these patterns to identify underlying attachment dynamics that often operate outside of conscious awareness.
This is what makes Rooted fundamentally different from personality tests: it is not measuring how you see yourself today, it is helping uncover the relational patterns that have shaped how you connect, trust, and experience relationships throughout your life.
What will I get from the Rooted experience?
You receive a comprehensive, personalized report that identifies your primary attachment patterns, how they show up in your relationships, your communication and emotional response patterns, areas for growth, and practical next steps.
Can I do this on mobile?
Yes, the Rooted app will soon be available, making it easy to complete your interview, view your report, and explore your results from your mobile device.
Is Rooted safe to use?
Yes. Rooted is a self-discovery platform, not a clinical service. It is designed to provide insight and understanding — not to replace therapy or clinical assessment. It is not appropriate for people in active mental health crisis. If you are in crisis, please contact a mental health professional.
Is Rooted a substitute for therapy?
No. Rooted is not a substitute for professional mental health treatment. It does not establish a clinical relationship and should not replace therapy, counseling, or professional psychological assessment. Many people find it a useful complement to existing therapeutic work.
What if the questions bring up difficult memories?
Some questions explore your early experiences of care, which can bring up emotions. This is normal and often part of the reflective value of the process. If you find the questions distressing, take a break. Rooted does not require you to disclose anything you are not comfortable with.
Is my interview confidential?
Yes. Your interview data is encrypted and private. It will never be shared with, sold to, or accessed by any third party. Your responses are used solely to generate your personal report.
Who will read my answers?
Your transcript is analyzed using the CAAP© methodology with AI assistance, under clinical oversight. No unauthorized third party will have access to your responses.
Can I delete my data?
Yes. You can request deletion of your account and all associated data at any time by contacting us.
How accurate are the results?
The CAAP© methodology is grounded in the Adult Attachment Interview tradition — one of the most rigorously validated clinical assessment tools in psychology. Results are meaningfully accurate, though they are not diagnostic and should be understood as insight, not clinical assessment.
What if I disagree with my results?
Your results reflect patterns in how you think and speak about your early experiences — which may not match how you consciously perceive yourself. If something doesn’t resonate, we encourage curiosity rather than dismissal. Discussing your report with a therapist can be helpful.
Can my results change over time?
Attachment patterns can shift with insight, intentional practice, and therapeutic work. You may choose to repeat the Rooted interview after a period of growth to observe changes in your patterns.
How long does the interview take?
Approximately 90 minutes. We recommend setting aside the full 90 minutes to ensure you are not rushed. The interview cannot be paused mid-session.
When will I receive my report?
Your report will be available after your interview has been processed using the CAAP© methodology. Typical turnaround is within 24—48 hours of completing your interview.
Do I need to prepare?
No preparation is necessary. Just find a quiet, comfortable space where you can speak freely. The more honest and spontaneous you are, the more meaningful your results will be.
